Herbivory

Herbivory – The act of an organism that eats plants as their main part of their diet. The squirrel is an herbivore because it eats grass as another main part of the diet. Herbivores are important to the food chain because since they eat plants, carnivores and omnivores will eat them as well which is an important step of the food chain.

Eukaryote

Eukaryote- an organism that contains a defined nucleus and organelles. The fungi in this picture is an eukaryote because it has a nuclear walls and has cell walls made of chitin. Fungi are really important because they decompose dead animal and plant material which other organisms can eat.

Biome

Biome- A community of organisms such as plants and animals that take up an environment. The environment in this picture depicts a biome because it has a community of different organisms that share a similar climate. Biomes have important factors such as temperature, climate, relief, geology, soils and vegetation that determine if it is suitable for an organism.

Autotroph

Autotroph- an organism that can constantly create their own food by using sunlight, CO2 and water. The plants in this picture can easily make their own food by using sunlight, CO2 and water since they are autotrophs. Autotrophs are important because they take energy from sunlight in order to grow and other organisms consume them which is an important part of the food chain.
